Sink the Fucking Putt, a humor book for adults, is a Parody of the well known Dick and Jane elementary school reading primers. Dick and Jane had become somewhat reclusive since they were the child stars of the early elementary school reading textbooks. Now they are grown up and living with Spot in the basement of Mother and Father's house. In recent times they became far more social but this led to some complications. This book is the zany story of Dick and Jane taking up the game of golf in order to overcome a certain problem in their young adult lives. See Dick and Jane, with their dog Spot at their side, purchase golf equipment and clothes, learn to putt, and play their first round of golf. The book also has a special feature, a hole in the front cover, that enables the reader to practice putting.

Sink the Fucking Putt Golf Fun with Dick and Jane Chris Fuller Claudia Wolf 9780692855133 Books

A strictly-for-adults irreverent parody of the “Jane and Dick” books used in grammar schools from 1934 to 1965. “By 1950, an estimated 80% of American first graders were reading “Jane and Dick “texts”
.
In the recently published (2017) “Sink the F*cking Putt: Golf fun with Dick and Jane,” Christopher Fuller, by means of a dystopian, tragicomic story line, effectively reminds many of us of an earlier representation of a more innocent — although, in many respects to social justice — an indisputably naïve period in American culture; in contradistinction, Mr. Fuller is keen to demonstrate, via a ruthlessly honest text and memorable illustrations, our current America presently afflicted by an unfortunately widespread, generalized and seemingly uncontainable self-centeredness. He accomplishes his purpose by focusing exclusively on the extremist end of self-centeredness, that nadir of self-centeredness rooted in methamphetamine abuse and its persisting antisocial aftereffects, marked by hallucinatory and delusional behaviors.

Each of his book’s 19 pages of text is accompanied by a full-page, colored illustration (by Claudia Wolf) interpreting the text as in the original “Jane and Dick” Series. Whereas the text and illustrations of the original are instructive in terms of socially appropriate and conscientious human interactions, “Sink the F*cking Putt” can best be described by the French phrase comédie noire. That genre of Black Comedy (akin to the ancient Greek comedies by the playwright Aristophanes, who utilized sexually and socially taboo subject matters to enlighten his audiences towards a more truthful appraisal of what passed as — but nevertheless skirted — true morality) is indubitably the genre Mr. Fuller has employed.

The crudely slapstick actions of this newly minted Jane and Dick — to say nothing of the actions of Spot, either a demonically possessed dog endowed with the power of human speech or more probably an auditory hallucination in Jane’s methamphetamine-addled brain — an All-American Black Comedy allows the reader, attentive both to text and illustrations, to discover a personally melancholic realization that within the outlying circumference of a circle — however extensive in diameter — containing metaphorically the more-often-than-not, ridiculously abhorrent actions of homo sapiens, the fact remains that only a pair of compasses whose needle point is centered at one immovable position can draw a perceptually perfect circle; thereby, focusing on that geometric acknowledgement, place the needle point of your spiritual compass at the Center of Compassion & Goodwill — in full awareness of our common lot of half-humorous folly, learnt in our real lives as actors in our individualized comédie noire; in this way only, Good Reader, may you circumscribe your own defects of character.

Most likely my review of “Sink the F*cking Putt: Golf fun with Dick and Jane” is equally informed by historical resources and my customarily avant-garde perspectives; nevertheless, accepting this be so, I’m fairly certain other careful readers will unexpectedly be surprised by customarily shunned, revelatory insights, about which, perchance, they’ll submit a review.
